There is a lot to love about EarthBound. The gameplay is solid, the humor is among the funniest in gaming, and the story and world-building is unique and special. The music is among the best soundtracks in gaming, with the cast credits theme being a standout.

The vinyl soundtrack will release in Japan on February 10, 2021. Pre-orders are up now for 5,500 yen. The package will include two discs, featuring 24 songs from the game. Additionally, while some of the music is recorded from the SNES, there will also be a few PSI Mix arrangements, including “Room Number” and “Hula Hoop.”

What this soundtrack also does is remind fans of their desire for the series to continue. For years fans have been asking Nintendo for a new EarthBound/Mother, as some have even brought it up to former Nintendo of America president Reggie File-Aime long after he left the company.

EarthBound may be one of the first titles mentioned as a ’90s cult-classic that deserves a reboot. The appetite for another entry into the series is there. While fans await the possibility of a new EarthBound/Mother, this vinyl soundtrack could help make the wait a bit more doable, as popping in the soundtrack into a record player would be relaxing and entertaining.
